Destination Augusta's FIFA World Cup Mini Golf Course
PROJECT: Custom Branded Mini Golf Course
Big Course Energy
The world's biggest sporting event deserved more than a banner and a selfie station. For Destination Augusta's FIFA World Cup activation, we transformed the fan experience into a playable love letter to the city with a custom mini golf course featuring oversized sculptures inspired by Augusta's iconic flowers, landmarks and local character. We left our mark on the golf balls, the scorecards, the hole names and the larger than life visual identity pieces placed around the range.
Equal parts public art installation, wayfinding moment and social media magnet, it gave visitors a reason to linger and see Augusta through a different lens. Weird enough to stop people in their tracks. Smart enough to turn local identity into an experience worth sharing.
“Having Augusta on display for FIFA World Cup visitors to see and experience required a world class activation. Karen came to us with an idea to have a small mini golf course complete with iconic scenes from Augusta. Teamwork definitely made this dream work! The outcome far exceeded our expectations and delivered a one of a kind interactive experience to entice those near and far to Come See Augusta.”
“If I had a refrigerator to hang my best professional work on, this project would be close to the top.
The goal? (pun intended) Create a dynamic activation that showcased Augusta to FIFA World Cup fans in Atlanta.
When Jay Markwalter, Georgia Department of Economic Development, introduced the concept of Georgia, The Whole Day Through, I immediately blurted out, “We should do an Augusta-themed mini-golf course!”
Suddenly, I had 1,100 square feet of space and the challenge of turning a spontaneous idea into a real experience.
That’s when partners like Wier / Stewart make all the difference. They understood the vision and helped bring it to life. It also pushed me to tap into my own creativity, problem-solving, and tenacity.
That’s what makes this project fridge-worthy: partnership, vision, creativity, and a willingness to take an idea from a passing thought to something thousands of fans could experience.
Huge thanks to the Destination Augusta team for believing the idea, and to every fan who stopped by to play a round. It was incredibly rewarding to see Augusta connect with people in such a fun, memorable way.”
